The New Yorker Festival

Description: You won't find a finer and more esteemed literary and arts festival than this one sponsored annually by The New Yorker. It boasts three days of acclaimed writers reading their works and artists discussing their processes. Feast of San Gennaro

Description: From the sacred (solemn parades of the regal statue of San Gennaro, patron saint of Naples, cloaked in dollar bills pinned by the faithful) to the profane (a lineup of lavish eaters ready to consume the most cannolis), this festival has it all. Though rooted in religion, NY's oldest street fair celebrates everything Italian from food served at 35 of Little Italy's famous restaurants, to music, arts and crafts.

German - American Steuben Parade
5th Ave, from 64th to 86th St, Bronx, NY 10465
Description: Beer and bratwurst, oompahs and lederhosen all things Deutsche are on parade down Fifth Avenue. Sandwiched between other celebratory events (including an Oktoberfest), the culture's most colorful displays of costume, music, and food are brought out in observance of the far-reaching influence of German heritage. The parade starts at noon on Saturday; other events are scheduled throughout the weekend.

Howl! Festival of East Village Arts

Special tours, workshops, and more are available at approximately 300 sites in diverse neighborhoods; expect to see structures like Edgar Allan Poe's House in the Bronx, the Noguchi Museum in Queens, and the slim spear of the Austrian Cultural Exchange building in Midtown.

Pulaski Day Parade

Description: Celebrating the courageous contributions of General Pulaski to the American Revolution, as well as the pride of Polish-Americans, this parade is now in its eighth decade. The route goes up Fifth Avenue from 31st St to 53rd St. The official Reviewing Stand is located at 40th and 42nd Street, Fifth Avenue in front of the New York Public Library. Grand Stands are set up between 40th and 42nd Street.
